Facility Information:
Camp McConnell's setting and facilities provide for excellence. Camp McConnell stretches across 217 acres of North Florida hardwood forest, meadowland and wetland. It is the largest YMCA owned property in Florida. The eastern boundary traverses for 1/2 mile along the banks of George's Lake, an 80-acre fishing lake. To the north, south, and west lie rural Florida farmland and Paynes Prairie State Preserve.
Air conditioned cabins provide for comfortable living. There are 10 camper housing units, 5 new cabin units opened in 2003/2004, and more are scheduled to come in the near future.
Air conditioned Dining and Program Hall is a clean modern facility capable of serving up to 200 at a seating. The camp's new program hall serves as a comfortable indoor sight for campwide evening porgrams and as a weather protected activity center on rainy days.
The Camp's Newly Renoted Olympic Sized Swimming Pool is the centerpiece of the main camp area. A one meter diving board and diving well coupled with the 144,000 gallon main swimming area make the daily recreational swim hour a popular camp event.
The Camp Canteen is open every night after supper and irregular times during the day. Campers may come just to sit at the tables and socialize, and/or enjoy candy or snacks. This year Camp Store is included FREE!

Our soccer coach is from London and he really knows how to play!

Horseback riding is a very popular activity at Camp.
CAMP McCONNELL IS COMMITTEED TO EXCELLENCE!
YMCA Camp McConnell is committed to excellence. Camp McConnell adheres to the YMCA of the USA's National Camping Guidelines. These guidelines require affirmation of adherence to 73 principles of operation covering mission & philosophy, personnel, administration, health & safety, facilities, transportation, program, etc.
Camp McConnell is committed to excellence through community support and leadership. The YMCA is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors enlisted from the ranks of community leaders, camper parents, and program participants. They provide direction and oversite to the camp's program.
Camp McConnell is committed to excellence through staff leadership. Camp Director, Kelly Myles has over 10 years of experience in camping. Jerry Hughes, Operations Director, is in his 29th year. Resident Camp Program Director, Charles Wolfe has a combined total of 16 years camping experience with 3 different camps. Administrative Director, Amy Roberts, is in her 2nd year with Camp McConnell.
Camp McConnell is committed to excellence in camper health care. The camp's infirmary is staffed by Nurse Krista, a licensed nurse, and accessible for camper care on a 24 hour around the clock basis. The Camp Nurse works closely with the Camp Doctor, a pediatrician located in nearby Gainesville, only minutes from camp.
Camp McConnell is committed to excellence in programming. We seek to enhance the campers' experience through a commitment to the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

Campers enjoy practicing archery at Camp McConnell.
